HAIS recommends that minors over the age of 13 ask their parents for permission before sending any information about themselves to anyone over the Internet.
Information That You Do Not Provide
HAIS collects some information automatically from visitors to the website; e.g. through the use of "cookies" and other tracking mechanisms. HAIS collects at least the following: your domain name and host for Internet access; the Internet address of the site from which you came; the date and time of your access; your computer's IP address and information about its operating system, browser and host; the date and time you access the Site and the pages you visit. For each visitor to the Website, HAIS' servers automatically collect information about which pages are visited and the IP address or domain name (e.g., hawaiicommunityfoundation.org) of visitors. We use your IP address to help diagnose problems with our server and to administer our Website. Your IP address also is used to help identify you and to gather broad demographic information.
Information That You Provide
It is always your choice, or the choice of anyone acting for you, whether to provide personal information. However, some information must be provided to participate in certain programs or activities (such as posting to the nonprofit event planner), so the decision not to provide information might limit or eliminate certain functions of the Website or the ability to participate. The kinds of personal information HAIS tends to request about you or others include but are not limited to your name, email address, organization name, ein, city, state/province. Other information is up to your good judgment, e.g., do not provide personal information about yourself that could be misused by others in a blog or a forum and do not provide personal information about others without their permission.
Information You Provide About Others
HAIS generally does not provide any personally identifiable information to anyone regarding HAIS Website users other than (a) information about particular donor advised funds that is disclosed to HAIS donors as described in online donor forms that such donors have signed, (b) information that Crescendo GiftLaw ("CGL") collects in connection with information you may provide to CGL, and (c) information that Website users post on the Website, including interactive sections of the site such as the Consultant Listing, Nonprofit Event Planner, Scholarship Seekers and NetCommunity sections.
HAIS may use anonymous information gathered from the Website, which may include information gathered about you, for various purposes. In general, HAIS uses personal information it collects to pursue our mission and operations, including the management of our Website, and to engage in related activities. You should assume that HAIS will use all information for all lawful purposes.
We reserve the right to use, disclose, share, sell, retain and otherwise deal with (collectively "disclose") all information collected via the Website, internally or to third parties, for any lawful purpose or to prevent harm to us or others. For example and without limitation, in our discretion we may disclose information:
HAIS generally will retain information for as long as required, allowed or for as long as HAIS believes it useful, but do not undertake retention obligations. HAIS may dispose of information in our discretion without notice, subject to applicable law.
Keeping your personal information that HAIS collects secure is of utmost concern to HAIS. HAIS exercises great care in providing secure transmission of your information from your computer to our servers. Personal information collected by the Website is stored in secure operating environments that are not available to the public.
